Why electric vehicles? cars, bikes, 4x4, trucks, tractors, buses, planes, ships and trains Electricity will take you further What's true for home energy is true for transport - electricity and batteries are more efficient than chemical storage to power and drive your transport, There's a reason our rail public transport system is electric! Our buses soon will be too. The energy transition in electric vehicles is here for cars, trucks and vans, bicycles and scooters. •An electric vehicle motor turns energy into motion with one moving part, without wasting energy on heat, sound, vibration •An electric drive train has four gears: drive (forward), neutral, reverse, park. •An electric drive train takes energy from a battery to your wheels – it is reversible, so it can also take energy from your wheels to your battery
EVs can do what you want them to do - it is change in thinking: thinking about vehicle cost, how far you really travel, when to energise your vehicle. Want to tow - what about a Boeing 787? Or rescue a diesel Hilux out of a tight spot? You can power your kettle or your tools from your EV. You can power your house too!
Electric cars are good for your wallet - check out these myth busters at the EV Council. You can find other useful information there or at Australian Electric Vehicle Association, or this page from thedriven.io links a range of useful information if you're thinking about buying an electric car.
The bottom line is an EV car is just a car. A lot about it is just the same as what you have (or what you want!) in your drive way.
The one thing that needs to change is your mindset to the energy you have to "onboard" your vehicle. We have spent decades where we need to go for a drive to refill our petrol tank. Now we can reenergise our vehicles at home, at work, at the shops... You power up before you go and when you get there, without having to stop along the way.
We've done this many times before... do you reach for change for a phonebox? or have to get that camera roll developed?
Once you try, you'll discover it won't take much at all.
